Introduction to Repeating Questions

This kind of exercise is done in pairs

You are given the exact words of the question in the exercise.

Your partner says the exact words of the repeating question.

You answer with whatever comes up for you. This could be a quick, short answer, or it could be more of an exploration out loud.

When you have answered, your partner says, “Thank you,”

and asks the question again, verbatim.

You give a different answer to the question.

Your partner says thank you and repeats the question again.

The two of you keep going until the time is up or you have no more answers.

The value of a repeating question is that it encourages you to explore deeply.

The first few times you answer the question, you are likely to give answers that you have already thought about or that are fully conscious. As you are forced to look for more answers, you will often go more deeply into your psyche and be surprised at what comes up. You may also look around in ways that you don’t ordinarily do or at aspects of your life or psyche that are new.
